Building Trades
Building
Trades is a two-year program designed to develop students' skills in
residential and commercial construction. The objective is to acquaint
students to the various careers in the construction trades industry.
Class work consists of theory and extensive hands-on experience.
Students enrolled in Building Trades learn carpentry, masonry, electrical wiring, plumbing, and equipment operation. Proper tool usage and material safety education is part of the curriculum. Students will receive instruction in first-aid, safety, and communication skills. Special fields such as estimating, blue print reading, and problem solving will also be covered. The class is responsible for the construction of a residential house.
Up to six hours of articulated credit may be given to students interested in pursuing a degree or certificate at State Fair Community College or Linn State Community College.
Eldon Career Center's Building Trades program is a member of Tech Prep Consortium Apprenticeship Program. The Building Trades program is working toward Associated General Contractor of America (AGC) certification.
