This course is open to beginning students in the agriculture program.  Areas of basic instruction include animal nutrition and breeding, swine, dairy and beef cattle, poultry production, livestock selection, agriculture mechanics, career in agriculture, supervised agriculture experience program and FFA leadership.  Grades 9-12, 1 Unit.

The second year course offers instruction in plant science, small grains, forage crops, row crops, agriculture mechanics, soil science, supervised agriculture experience program and FFA leadership, as well as parliamentary procedure.  Pre-Requisite: Ag. Science II, Grades 10-12, 1 Unit.

Instruction includes money management and profit maximizing principles such as supply and demand, diminishing returns, fixed and variable costs, time value of money and marketing strategies.  Ways of organizing a business, job applications, writing resumes and employment in an Ag. Business are also discussed.  Students will also maintain their record book on their SAEP.  Pre-Requisite: Ag. Science I and II, Grades 11-12, 1 Unit.

Swine, sheep and beef selection, livestock reproduction, nutrition, and marketing, herd management, supervised agriculture experience program, and FFA leadership are all part of this course.  Pre-Requisite: Ag. Science I and II, Grades 11-12, ½ Unit.

Basic instruction includes seed and crop judging, soil surveying and judging, seed and plant identification, supervised agriculture experience program and FFA leadership.  The production areas include small grains, forage and row crop production and marketing and budgeting of field crops.  Pre-Requisite:  Ag. Science I and II, Grades 11-12, 1 Unit.

Students will receive instruction on plant growth and development, identification of horticulture plants and crops, plant propagation, vegetable production, greenhouse management, flower potting, floral design and careers in horticulture.  Students will also participate in the supervised agriculture experience program and FFA leadership.  Pre-Requisite:  Ag. Science I, Recommended:  Ag. Science II, Grades 10-12, 1 or ½ Unit.

Instruction includes: landscaping and landscape design, production, marketing and culture of landscaping plants.  Students will also conduct a supervised agriculture program along with FFA leadership.  Pre-Requisite:  Ag. Science I, Recommended:  Ag. Science II, Grades 10-12, ½ Unit.

Fourth year agriculture students can earn an additional unit of credit by working in an approved agriculture-related job.  See instructor for details.  Students must be enrolled in one other agriculture class while in school.  Students can be released for a maximum of 2 hours and must work at least 10 hours per week.  Pre-requisite:  Teacher Approval, Grade 12, 1 Unit.
